Dr. Rakel was born and raised in Cincinnati. He is a graduate of Archbishop Moeller High School. He attended Xavier University for his undergraduate degree where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Natural Science. He completed his medical education at The University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine. Dr. Rakel then moved to Dayton, Ohio to complete his pediatric residency at Children’s Medical Center (Wright State University School of Medicine), where he also served as Chief Resident his last year.
After completing his residency program, he moved to Gallipolis, Ohio where he was one of six pediatricians at the multi-specialty group, Holzer Medical Center. After three years, Dr. Rakel headed back to Cincinnati and joined Pediatric Offices, Inc. He was with this group for approximately ten years before joining ESD Pediatric Group in 1994. Dr Rakel is the Treasurer of ESD. He can be found caring for children of all ages at the Milford office.
Dr. Rakel is board certified in pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. His current interests include diagnosis and treatment of children with ADHD and ADD. He also has a passion for treating and caring for patients who suffer from various psychological issues.
Dr. Rakel is married to his very supportive and understanding wife, Joyce. They have two grown children, Meredith and Vanessa, and reside in the Glendale area. In his spare time, Dr. Rakel enjoys spending time with his family and visiting his children who live out of state. He also enjoys watching sporting events, especially his beloved XU Musketeers.
